Closing bell: Sensex surges 304 points, Nifty settles at 10947, RIL shares up over 3%

BSE Sensex reclaimed the 36,000-mark and NSE’s Nifty 50 rose past 10,900 on Tuesday led by gains on IT, realty and capital goods counters, ahead of key quarterly results scheduled later in the day. The Sensex gained 276 points in the previous session. Asian shares rallied for a third session as hopes for upbeat corporate earnings buoyed US stocks. Oil prices rose by more than $1 dollar per barrel due to growing global supply outages. The Indian rupee inched down against the US dollar amid thin trade in Mumbai and ahead of key consumer price inflation data.
